OAU’s fourth substantive VC passes on

The global executive committee, Great Ife Alumni Association announces with deep regrets the demise of Prof C.A. Onwumechili, the visionary and compassionate fourth substantive Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, then University of Ife. Professor Cyril Agodi Onwumechili is noted to have provided exemplary academic and administrative leadership during his tenure as Vice Chancellor of the 62 years old institution between 1979 to 1982.

The global President, Great Ife Alumni Association, Engr. Wale Olaleye FNSE has joined stakeholders within and outside Great Ife community in mourning the loss of Prof C.A. Onwumechili, an impactful patriot who touched several lives throughout his career.

Engr. Wale Olaleye FNSE on behalf of members of the Alumni Association expressed regrets on the irreplaceable loss and condoled the immediate and distant family of Prof C.A. Onwumechili on the painful exit.

The Alumni Association also sympathized with the academic community on the loss of the foremost Nigerian physicist and former President of Nigerian Academy of Science. While praying for fortitude to bear the loss by all and sundry, Engr. Wale Olaleye FNSE prayed for a blissful rest of the gentle soul of Prof C.A. Onwumechili
