Between reality and expectation

We all dream, hope, and expect things to go a certain way. But sometimes, life has other plans. And wen what we hoped for doesn’t happen, it can leave us feeling sad, frustrated, or even heartbroken. That feeling? It’s called disappointment—and everyone experiences it.

Disappointment usually happens when there’s a gap between what we expect and what actually happens. This can show up in different areas of life—school, relationships, work, or even personal goals.

Sometimes, we expect too much from people or situations. We might assume others understand us when they actually don’t. Life also has a way of surprising us—things change suddenly, and we’re left feeling confused or let down. At times, we simply see things differently from others, and that creates misunderstandings.

But the good news is, disappointment doesn’t have to crush us. It’s okay to feel bad—let yourself feel it. Cry if you need to. Be quiet if that helps. What matters is not staying stuck in that feeling. Take a moment to ask yourself if your expectations were realistic. Maybe they were too high, or maybe life just happened. Either way, adjusting how you see the situation can help a lot.

Taking care of yourself also makes a big difference. Rest. Eat well. Do something simple that makes you smile. Talk to someone you trust—a friend, family member, or even a professional. Sometimes, just saying things out loud makes them lighter.

Remember, you can’t control everything, but you can choose how to respond. Focus on small steps forward, even if it’s just one tiny thing you can change today. That little step counts.
