Prophetess lands in police cell over multi-million naira fraud

A prophetess of Celestial Church of Christ, Oluwakemi Sotonode is currently cooling her feet inside cell of Ogun State Police Command, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Also known as Marvelous, Sotonode was picked for allegedly obtaining money running to millions of naira from unsuspecting people who gave in to her offers to help them on business transactions.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, pictured the suspect as a self-styled prophet of C.C.C Marvelous model Parish, Obada-Oko and a long wanted woman after series of her escapades had been reported to the police through a petition.

One Idris Ilyas on the 11th of November 2019 was said to have sent the petition wherein he gave account of how the suspect contacted him to supply Kaolin stone to a company; how he did the supply; how the suspect went to the company, received the sum of N1.2million on his behalf and converted it to her own use.

Oyeyemi added, “Also, on the 30th of September 2020, the same prophetess collected the sum of N200,000 from one Olabangboye Olalekan under the pretence that she will sell a plot of land for him at Obada-oko area of the State, but disappeared after collecting the money.

“Likewise in April this year, the same suspect contacted one Kehinde Ojekunle ‘f’ to supply Kaolin worth of N300,000 to a company and she went behind her, collected the money on her behalf and converted it to her own use.

“In March 2020, the same suspect obtained the sum of N670,000 from one Gbolagade Damilola under the pretence of supplying her 40 bags of rice but she ran away since then.”

Following the load of complaints on the police table, the PPRO said that the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun directed the officer in charge of the Public Complaint Bureau to go after the suspect, the directive which yielded fruit when watertight intelligence eventually dug her out from hideout yesterday.

“Upon interrogation, she admitted collecting all the money stated above but she has not been able to give any reasonable account of it all. But the CP has ordered a thorough investigation for prosecution,” Oyeyemi said.
