OAU clears the air on VC’s inauguration tomorrow

Contrary to a certain fear expressed in some quarters as regards the inauguration of its 12th Vice-chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire tomorrow, the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has risen with assured words that all is set to host the event under a renewed peace with people of Ife community.

Our correspondent on campus reports a friendly and lively ambiance in readiness for the inauguration holding inside the imposing Oduduwa Hall at 10 am.

Confirming the update, Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju added that impregnable security measure is in place in honour of invited guests from different destinations.

Olarewaju, in a statement he signed, urged the whole university community, guests and other stakeholders to ignore any threat to the inauguration.

He stated, “This is sequel to a Press Statement by the Ife Community Assembly, dated 5th June, 2022, titled: ” RE: OAU VC INAUGURATION CEREMONY – APPEAL FOR CALM: THE SUSPENDED PROTESTS REMAIN SUSPENDED” and duly signed by comrade Lawrence Awowoyin, J.P, President, Ife Development Board; Dr. Gbolade Famoriyo, President, Ife Progressive Forum; Comrade O. Oyeyinka, President, Great Ife Movement, and their General Secretaries : Rotimi Omisakin, Agbeke Odunmorayo and L. Adewale, a copy of which was directly sent to the University Management via the public relations officer.”

According to the statement: ” Consequently, on behalf of Ife Community, it is hereby declared that NO PROTEST in whatever form on the subject under reference is authorised now in Ile – Ife. “We welcome all invited guests/persons to the inauguration of the 12th substantive OAU Vice Chancellor, assuring them of peaceful atmosphere and security, before, during and after the ceremony”.

The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede appreciated the Ife Community Assembly and urged them to sustain the age-long harmonious marriage between them and the university community.

Ogunbodede also appreciated all stakeholders for their cooperation and contributions to the overall success of his administration, seeking more cooperation for his successor to lead the institution to the dream of its founders in 1961.
