I have a question for married women. Has your husband ever done this?
Everything is over. You are both lying quietly, trying to catch your breath. Suddenly, he turns around, lifts his shirt a little and says, “Please, rub my back.”
Not “How are you feeling?”
Not “Are you okay?”
Just… “Rub my back.”
The first time it happened to me, I almost laughed.
I wanted to ask, “Excuse me, who exactly did the hard work here?”
Since then, I have discovered that this is not peculiar to my husband. Mention it among married women and watch the room come alive. Some will laugh so hard that they almost fall off their chairs.
“My own even asks me to scratch his back.”
“Mine wants a massage.”
“Mine says, ‘A little lower… yes, that’s the spot.’”
It is almost as if there is an invisible law guiding married men.
For a long time, I thought they were simply being dramatic. But I became curious and started reading about it.
It turns out there is some science behind this funny behaviour.
After sex, the body releases hormones that make people feel relaxed, sleepy and emotionally connected. Gentle touch, like rubbing the back or cuddling, helps some men enjoy that feeling for a little longer. It is their own way of saying, “Don’t leave yet. Stay with me.”
Interesting, isn’t it?
What many women see as unnecessary pampering may actually be a request for affection.
That does not mean every husband will ask for a back rub. Some will simply sleep within thirty seconds, as if somebody switched off the electricity. Others suddenly become philosophers, wanting to discuss football, politics or tomorrow’s breakfast.
Men can be wonderfully unpredictable.
There is another interesting fact many couples do not talk about.
Some people think sex ends the moment the man reaches orgasm. That is one of the biggest misunderstandings in many marriages.
Women and men are different.
While many men need time before becoming aroused again, some women can experience more than one orgasm during the same intimate moment if they are relaxed, emotionally connected and properly stimulated. Some women may never experience this, and that is perfectly normal too. Every woman’s body is different.
The lesson is simple. Good sex is not about speed. It is not about who finishes first. It is about making sure both husband and wife enjoy the journey.
Unfortunately, many couples never talk about these things. They assume their partner already knows what they like.
Marriage does not work that way.
Nobody receives a manual on their wedding day. Couples learn by talking, listening and paying attention to each other.
So, dear husbands, if you enjoy those famous back rubs after intimacy, remember that love should never be one-sided. Your wife also deserves care, affection and attention. She may not ask you to rub her back, but she will certainly appreciate the same kindness you enjoy receiving.
And to my fellow wives, the next time your husband quietly says, “Please, rub my back,” don’t be too surprised.
Just smile.
You are not merely rubbing his back.
You may be helping him feel loved in a language he does not even know how to explain.
Although, between you and me, I still believe they should return the favour once in a while. Marriage is partnership, not a one-man massage parlour.
If both husband and wife leave the bedroom feeling loved, appreciated and understood, then everybody has won.
And that, perhaps, is the sweetest ending of all.
