Teacher arrested for defiling pupil

A private school teacher in Ogun State, Mathew Adebayo is spending his weekend in detention for allegedly subjecting his pupil (name withheld) to regular sex soon after the school resumed for the West African School Certificate (WASC) examinations.

The Police Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Command, AbimbolaOyeyemi, a deputy superintendent of police, gave the age of the suspect as 24 and his victim 15, saying the teacher was arrested following a report by his employer to Sango Divisional Police Headquarters.

“She stated further that the said teacher intimidated the victim by telling her that she will not pass the WAEC exams if she didn’t allow him having sex with her, consequence upon which he has been calling her out of the dormitory in the night and taking her to a classroom where he used to have carnal knowledge of her. When the victim can no longer bear the sexual assault of the randy teacher, she decided to inform the proprietress,” he said.

Oyeyemi added that upon the report, the DPO Sango Division, Godwin Idehai, a chief superintendent of police, detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested and later interrogated.

“He has since then made a confessional statement admitting the commission of the crime. The victim has been taken to hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police Edward A. Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Labor Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Eleweeran, Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution,” the PPRO confirmed.
