For the fifth time yesterday, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerged a presidential candidate to slug it out with candidates of other political parties at the 2023 general elections to usher in successor of the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.
Under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abubakar emerged after the collation of the final results of the primary election at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, scoring 371 votes.
Behind him were Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, 237 votes; a former Governor of KwaraState, Dr Bukola Saraki, 70 votes; a former Secretary to the Federal Government, Anyim Pius Anyim, 14 votes; Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, 38; Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Emmanu Udom, 38; Mrs Taria Diana Oliver (1) and Sam Ohuabunwa (1) respectively, while 12 votes were voided.
Abubakar, it will be recalled, was the candidate of the party at the 2019 elections which secured second term for Buhari. He, however, contested the results in court.
