Iresi poly governing council yawns for devt, commends founder

 

Apparently determined to achieve a rapid development of the Iresi Polytechnic, Iresi, Chairman, Governing Council of the polytechnic, Professor. Omolayo Ademola Ajayi, has appealed to groups and individuals in the town to join hands with the founder, Professor Samuel Olusegun Ayodele in his commitment to transform Iresi to Jerusalem of knowledge seekers across the globe.

Ajayi, during a joint meeting of the council with leadership of the Iresi Zenith, a socio-cultural group, stated that the polytechnic required an aggressive development to realize dream of its founding father, seeking support for Rector, Engineer Dr Kamoru Kadiri in actualizing the dream.

Just as he applauded Professor Ayodele, he also charged Iresi Zenith “to rally round the facilitator of the Polytechnic Iresi, Professor Samuel Olusegun Ayodele, who has sacrificed huge resources to bring to fruition, the dream of having a polytechnic in Iresi Town, on the need to sustain the Polytechnic’s growth and progress through commitment of time and financial resources.”

Similarly, a council member, Professor Ladi Osasona, called the group on need to institutionalize a strong succession plan to produce individuals to complement Professor Ayodele.

The meeting featured presentation of the rector’s report of his stewardship since he assumed office in September, 2021, stressing significance of the next accreditation to academic programmes being offered in the Polytechnic.

Dr Kadiri also highlighted plans to mount the Preliminary Preparatory Class for JAMB (PPCJ), Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMB), National Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree Programmes in order to expand frontiers of academic programmes in the Polytechnic.

He informed the council of the newly designed flag and anthem for the polytechnic, also revealing committees to ensure sanity and standard operations in the system. The rector enumerated some of the challenges being faced by the institution which include: shortage of staff, bad road networks and the need to improve telecommunication services in the area.

“Other issues raised at the meeting bordered on full preparation for the next accreditation exercises in the Polytechnic; the need to create a Board of Trustees (BoT) which was proposed to work hand-in-hand with the Governing Council; flow of information among the key stakeholders to avoid communication gap; need for the Polytechnic Management to always make the institution’s budget ahead and the need for all hands to be on the deck to ensure that The Polytechnic Iresi is taken to an enviable height.

“Other stakeholders in attendance at the crucial meeting were Barr. S. A. Fagbemi, Governing Council/Iresi Zenith member, Dr. Hammed Abodunrin, Alhaji Adekunle B. Yusuf, Alhaji Abolarinwa J. Adekunle and Chief ‘Kunle Adeniran,” a report stated.

Meanwhile, Dr Kadiri attended the 18th Bi-biennial National Conference in Birni-Kebbi, where he presented the lead paper.

The conference which held between November 16 and 18, 2021, was themed: “Promoting Technical and Economic Innovation in Post-Covid19 Nigeria: The Role of Polytechnic Education.”

In his paper, the rector unraveled the roles of Polytechnic education in the promotion of technology innovation in Nigeria. “This education is designed to institute the promotion of industry technology, technological development and transformation to serve as a change agent for both technical systems and societal changes.”

He also noted that “to promote the technology in Nigeria, there is the need to upgrade the standard of educational practice in all the Polytechnics because the needs of the industrial sector are on the increase.”
