No more war: K1, drummer, Ayanlowo renew love

The two-year rift between fuji musician, K1 and his once aggrieved lead talking drummer, Mr Ayankunle Ayanlowo has reached its terminal point.

TheTabloid.net could not access details of undercurrents which led to the ceasefire and eventual reunion but sources confirmed that the reengagement is real and final with both parties heaving a sigh of relief.

In March 2024, social media erupted in exchanges between K1’s fans and Ayanlowo’s supporters, following the latter’s interview in which he raised some allegations against his former boss, describing him as insensitive, selfish and an extreme bourgeoisie, a slave driver.

K1, in return, refutted the allegations in a session with a battery of reporters he hosted, saying he had been of assistance to the drummer whom he insisted was out to fabricate falsehood against him and his reputation.

However, sign of likely truce emerged in December 2025 when Ayanlowo was spotted on K1’s stage during a performance.

The picture was becoming clearer when more speculation rose, pointing to a final reunion between the two enstranged parties.

Finally, on January 7 at the 60th birthday party of one Alhaji Kuam Alade Shitta at the Eko Club, Surulere Lagos, Ayanlowo made it back to the band and returned to his former lead role to the delight of K1’s fans, many of whom, it was learnt, had long wished for his return to the band, part of which he has been for about three decades.

“As a long time fan of Alhaji (K1), I have a special feeling watching Ayanlowo’s performance behind Alhaji. He is master of his style. He is flexible and always on top of Alhaji’s rhythmn. So, I am happy that he is back to the band. I don’t know how they reconciled. Does that matter again? It gladdens our hearts as fans,” one Akeem Adegoke, a Lagos fan of K1, told our correspondent.

In alignment to Adegoke’s view, it was learnt that K1, in one hand, was favourably disposed to the new development due to his acclaimed soft spot for Ayanlowo’s dexterity, firmness and infectious energy in the band.

Ayanlowo, on the other hand, is said to have tried his hands with other bands within and outside Lagos, none of which has matched up with his standard and also met his expectations.

At a point, he cried out and added another allegation that K1 and his allies were intimidating him, blocking him from opportunites and denying him rewarding jobs that would pick his bills.

All these now belong to history book as K1 at the said party acknowledged Ayanlowo’s return and their readiness to move away from the past. He said conflict between a couple, for instance, is a natural phenomenon, assuring Ayankunle of his genuine love of his art and career growth.

K1 cautioned social media community of a need not to cry more than the bereaved on public matters, telling Ayanlowo that his band members remain his true friends and family members who wish him well genuinely.

He drew a comparison from past divorce cases recorded among late notable musicians like Haruna Isola, Ayinla Omowura and Yusuf Olatunji, reminding public that reconciliation eventually ended all the disputes with their lead talking drummers.
