Olugbon salutes Makinde, seeks priority over LAUTECH

The Olugbon of Ile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao has applauded Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde over his recent accomplishment which has given Oyo State sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, declaring Governor Makinde as a performing governor.

Oba Alao told The Tabloid.net that humility combined with brilliance had been an enduring asset with which the governor administers Oyo State since he was inaugurated on May 29, 2019 inside the main bowl of the former Liberty Stadium, now Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, the state capital.

The traditional ruler, who doubles as Vice-chairman of the Oyo  State Council of Obas and Chiefs, added that Governor Makinde had proved to be a governor who had known what to do with power long before he was eventually elected.

Oba Alao also said that it took the governor’s firmness and humility to reconcile his design with that of Osun State Government, leading to the historic result he had achieved for Oyo State during his less than two years in office.

“His Excellency is a man of action; highly cerebral and determined to make his impact in the state. His feat on LAUTECH has won him into the heart of people who did not even support him. He has finally ended that debacle. It is not about politics but about preparedness to work for the benefits of all the people in the state. Besides, he pays salaries regularly to my amazement. In fact, how he does it remains a puzzle to me given the state of the economy. He is opening up other zones to make life easy for the people of remote areas,” he noted.

The LAUTECH was founded as Oyo State University of Technology through an edict in April 1990. In August 1991, the state was split into two when the then General Ibrahim Babangida created Osun State, consequent upon which the university was renamed LAUTECH jointly owned by the two states.

Oyo State Government had put forward her intention to have a full ownership of the university, efforts which always met Osun State Government resistance. Specifically, the administration of Oyo State Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala made a decisive step. He, however, met a brick wall in the Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, despite that the two governors were members of the then governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Oba Alao has, therefore, congratulated Governor Makinde and urged him to exercise caution in handling the administration of the university against the backdrop of emerging agitation from different quarters.

“According to geographical evidence, 99% of LAUTECH sit on Ile-Igbon’s soil. As the royal father of the land, I will ask the governor to give us a top priority, in terms of distribution of faculties and other logistics. The record is there that we have always been friendly to the school authorities and students. The government should consider this peaceful co-existence of all the stakeholders in his next line of action on the university,” he said.
