Of love, for love: Tobi, Asmau tie the knot in Abuja

At the point of their contact, Tobi and Asmau, deep inside them, knew that, all things being equal, they were going to make it to the altar and, consequently, make their parents and friends proud.

A significant step to this shared dream was taken on October 18, 2025, their day of introduction when Tobi led his family members to his in-law in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital and formally declared his intention to pluck the flower in their compound.

With the success recorded at the modest ceremony, the stage was set for the grand wedding. Date and venue picked, invites sent out, everybody was looking forward to a wedding to end Tobi’s grief over loss of his dear father late Asiwaju of Osogbo, Chief Ajadi Badmus, a year earlier.

Inside the Hillside Events Centre, Abuja, the venue of the wedding on March 28, a one-minute silence was observed in honour of Badmus. Also on late Badmus honour, former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Oyetunji, the new Asiwaju of Osogbo, Chief Kunle Adeigbe (retd justice) and a host of other dignitaries from Osun State turned out in bright colours at the holy wedlock.

In conformity with Yoruba age-old custom and tradition, Badmus’ younger brother, who is the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Tunde Badmus stood and stood firmly on behalf of his brother, walking and seated beside groom’s mother, Alhaja Gbelewade Badmus during the proceedings.

Members of the Muslim Grammar School, Osogbo Old Students Association, a group midwifed by late Badmus, made the list of important personalities who witnessed the historic wedding between a medical doctor and an executive of freight services provider company.

The Ataoja confessed how emotions almost submerged him at his sight of late Badmus image on the wedding brochure, remembering their good old days together.

Oba Oyetunji noted that Badmus served Osogbo with all his strength and dedication until his last day. He offered prayers and expressed no surprise by the response of guests at the occasion despite the distance.

On behalf of his wife, the groom was immensly thankful to all their guests from Nigeria, Australia, the UK, Canada, Brazil, the USA, and other countries. He regretted the stress through which some went in long hours on the road from the North, South, East, and Western part of the country.

“I give thanks to Almighty Allah for granting everyone safe journeys to and fro, and for making the celebration peaceful and joyful.

“I also take this honour as an honour to my late father, Ajadi Badmus. The love, respect, and turnout we witnessed show that his name is still respected, honoured, and worth celebrating. We could see that clearly in every moment of this celebration,” he remarked.

He also expressed his gratitude to Asiwaju Tunde Badmus, “for being a great and loving father. He did not make us feel the absence of his dear brother. His care, guidance, and constant support mean so much to us.”

He further remarked, “Special appreciation to my father-in-law, Dr. Ali Omeiza, and other members of the family, for raising such a caring, loving, and well brought up daughter. Her kindness reflects the values she received from you all. May Almighty Allah bless you all abundantly.”
