IBEDC vandals rounded up with cables

The Ogun State Police Command has just exposed one of factors responsible for the current failure of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Two suspects are already helping the command in interrogation room with a view to providing more clues into their modus operandi in vandalising the company’s electric cable in Ijebu-Ode axis of the state.

The Tabloid.net gathered that on the first day of June 2022 the duo of Odogwu Wisdom and Akorede Aregbe ran out of luck; they were rounded up following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of the Igbeba Divisional Headquarters, at about 2 a.m, from local vigilante at Olisa area of ijebu ode.

Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a deputy superitendent of police confirmed that the suspects were operating at an IBEDC transformer in the said area.

Oyeyemi explained, “upon information, the DPO Igbeba division, CSP Musiliu Doga, quickly led his patrol team to the area where Odogwu Wisdom,who came to the area on a motorcycle was arrested with already cut cable from the electricity installation in the area, while his other colleagues escaped.

“On interrogation, Odogwu Wisdom confessed that he and his gang were specialised in stealing electric cable, he also mentioned one Akorede Aregbe as one of their receivers. Having mentioned the receiver, the policemen went after him and got him arrested as well.

“Recovered from them are large quantities of cable suspected to have been stolen from IBEDC installation as well as tools they are using for the illicit trade.”

Commissioner of Police of the command, Mr Lanre Bankole, was said to have ordered the transfer of the suspects “to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.”
