…Alaafin, Aragbiji, Timi present
Notwithstanding momentum towards the 2022 governorship elections in Osun State, members of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) and those of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) put politics on recess yesterday in Sekona and publicly exchanged pleasantries at function of a university Scholar, Professor Siyan Oyeweso.
The former dean, School of Humanities of the Osun State University, hosted the final burial for his late mother, Chief (Mrs) Yinyinola Oyeweso, 92, who, TheTabloid.net gathered, had passed on 40 days earlier.
The infrequent spectacle of members of the two parties in warm embrace was the icing on the cake at the event with incumbent and former state Governors, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola physically present alongside their lieutenants.
Also in attendance were traditional rulers within and outside Osun State; they included the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi.
Governor Oyetola, who appeared in a simple white agbada and wore a nose mask, made attestation to Oyeweso’s stature as a distinguished son of the state, saying “for Baba Alaafin to attend this event says a lot about Professor Oyeweso. God shall answer prayers which Baba offered here today.”
Before the governor’s remark, Oba Olayiwola had smartly made a case for Oyeweso as one who should be considered for the position of the Vice-chancellor of the multi-campus Osun State University, Osogbo in the ongoing search for a candidate for the exalted office.
“I pray to God to give Oyeweso a long life like that given to his late mother; I want to also pray to our governor not to let him reach age of his mother before he is picked to be the Vice-chancellor of the state university,” he said amidst applause.
The Aragbiji was also in aso ebi to underscore his close affinity with Oyeweso whom he described as Omoluabi and humility personified. He said the Historian would not be found wanting, in terms of offering service to the state and people.
“I am most fascinated by his simplicity and broad mind, which are attributes not in surplus for people of his academic attainment. That has been his trait, which makes him friend to many people of different classes,” he noted.
Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode did not only attend as part of Governor Oyetola delegate, she also put on the aso ebi, describing Oyeweso as “a good man, my friend and brother.”
Also in the uniform fabric was the former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Oluomo Sunday Akere, who attested to erudition of Oyeweso and his humanism, which, he said, warmed him to public across the board.
“You don’t expect such a person not to have this traffic of guests. What it shows is that we should all do our best and be fair to all, irrespective of our affiliation, politically and religiously,” Akere said.
The State Chairman of APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, Osun State Amotekun Corps Commander, Brig-Gen Basir Adewinbi, Major- General Kamil Isola Yusuf, Editor, Saturday Tribune, Dr Lasisi Olagunju; a Director, Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation, Alhaji Moshood Sulaiman and other personalities witnessed the occasion held on field of St Peters Primary School, Sekona.
Oyeweso was simply over the moon, shuttling from seat to seat and expressing his gratitude to his guests whose response to his invites, he said, stunned his expectations, considering challenges involved in road transportation in the country.
Resplendent in a sky blue dry lace, Oyeweso remarked that there was nothing to say other than showing gratitude to all attendees for their turnout, “specifically appreciating Governor Oyetola, Prince Omoba Olagunsoye Oyinlola, government officials and other guests from different places including Lagos State.”
He added, “I also appreciate the Ikubabayeye for his presence and prayers; I appreciate other royal fathers, from the Aragbiji to my father, the Timi. I can’t thank them enough for their supports towards success of this event.”
