Your labour room experience

He came out of the hospital’s treatment area with tears in his eyes. He had obviously been crying and was still crying.
The man who held him by the waist whom we all later learnt is his best friend and best man at his wedding years back, tried to pacify him.

Both men were obviously in their mid 40’s. The moment his friend said,” bro, thank God it all ended in praise, we should celebrate and praise God, don’t forget you have a couple of phone calls to make”, the teary man stopped abruptly like those words ignited something in him. The next thing he did surprised everyone present.

He kept up three times and shouted Halleluyah , he turned 360 degrees. He stopped while facing a part of the hospital wall and he started punching the wall like a boxer who was in a boxing ring. His friend tried to stop him but he wasn’t strong enough. He pleaded with two other men who were in the hospital reception area to help hold him. All the while he was punching the wall, he kept shouting, ” Lord I can’t thank You enough. His friend with the help of the other men held him and asked him to calm down and hold himself together; his knuckles were already bleeding.

Sincerely, if not because of the words coming out of his mouth, I personally would have concluded that he was high on a substance. But alas no! because after he had fully calmed down, his friend shared his testimony.

His wife who happened to be in her mouth d 40’s also had just delivered a set of twin boys after 12 years of waiting on the Lord.

He had witnessed the birthing of the boys. They were both in the labour journey together because, according to him, he had promised his wife that he would be with her all the way. He witnessed the birthing of the children from when his wife’s water burst, from when she was one centimeter dilated to 10 centimeter dilation and the actual birthing of the boys.

When he is finally calm enough; the first thing that came out of his mouth was; whoever said women are the weaker vessel? Father Lord I am sorry if I challenged you on this; women are super strong and they are heroes.
His reaction and words led other people, especially men who had witnessed their wives labour room journey to share their experiences.

One of them said he was out of the country when his wife gave birth to their first child. He, however, requested from the private hospital where their second child was delivered to witness the delivery, ” I was so scared, you needed to see the way I was sweating and shaking. I could feel my wife’s pain. There and then, I vowed that we won’t have another child again as we have always prayed for and wanted three children.

I even found it a little difficult to have sex with her after she had fully recovered, but you see these women, they will come for you asking for more. I was the one who insisted that she should go on a family planning device. I don’t know how they forget such pain”.

Another man recalled that his elder brother who resides in the USA relayed that he fainted when the baby’s head was crowned, he couldn’t take it or stand the pain his wife was going through. These experiences sparked up the debate of whether men should be allowed in the labour room. This is actually allowed overseas, but not so common here. Should it be made mandatory?

As a man did you, at any point, have a labour room or delivery experience?
