Folarin, a three-term senator, will fly the party’s flag next year against the incumbent Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and candidates of other parties.
The Tabloid.net gathered that at the primary election held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Folarin scored 954 votes, the party’s candidate in 2019, Chief Bayo Adelabu, 327 votes while Dr Azeez Adeduntan, Barr Akeem Agbaje, SAN and Mr Akeem Alao scored two (2), 15 and six (6) votes, respectively.
It was learnt that 11 votes were counted invalid by the Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi-led primary committee.
After the results were announced, Folarin said the party remained one indivisible family and there was no victory, no vanquished in the exercise.
However, Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN, an aspirant, had alleged that the delegate list was tampered with and also petitioned the APC leadership. He, thus, pulled out of the exercise.
A source said, “Akintola declared that any primary exercise conducted on another day beyond the original day announced by the party is invalid.”
It was further learnt that some members of the party were accusing the late Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi of causing the party the setback, which made it an opposition in the state.
“I couldn’t believe it watching those people cursing Ajimobi as if he was alive. They were so embittered that they could have attacked him physically if he was present,” another source revealed.
