It’s Iya Lekan @ 70: Ataoja, Oluwo in dramatic dance

Inside the splendid Whitestone Events Place, Oregun, Lagos State on Sunday December 14, 2025, stepping out in a bright-coloured sequin lace fabric for her 70th birthday reception was Alhaja Monsurat Titilayo Badmus, wife of the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Alhaji Tunde Badmus who is also the founder of the Tuns International Holdings Limited.

The matriach’s emergence was a beauty to behold and an inadvertent betrayal of biological age of a septuagenarian she just attained. She wore a look of a stylish celebrity who was just entering her golden age and hosting guests comprising her fellow celebrities.

TheTabloid.net gathered that the real secret of Iya Lekan’s durability is her obstinate adherence to the principle of life wherein she refuses to give in to the allure of her social status to live loud and chase faces of cameras about at functions with suspended shoulders.

Badmus, who was born on December 4, 1955, is said to be humble, humane and a respecter of Yoruba culture and tradition, in addition to her unwavering commitment to the Islamic religion which preaches modesty and compassion for humanity. She is also said to be a prayer warrior.

This reflected in the programme of her ceremony, which put together a group of clerics invited from Lagos and beyond, including the Ilorin-based Sheikh Farooq Onikipa, all of whom praised God, prayed for her and committed her future into the hand of God.

Compère of the occasion, Mr Gbenga Adeyinka was in his element, connecting each segment to the other in a spectacle which further confirmed his blend with big stages where the society personalities of immeasurable respect are seated.

Aside the husband of the celebrant, who clocked 79 years on May 9, 2025, founder of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, Osun State Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Munirudeen Oyebamji, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdurasheed Olabomi, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi were all in attendance, including a former member of the House of Representatives (2019–2023) from Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Constituency of Oyo State, Hon Sina Peller.

While catching fun dancing to a live band, Peller took a pause and discretionally directed the musician to invite the husband of the celebrant to the dance floor, a directive that plucked the septuagenarian from his seat. He hardly stepped forward when Peller and friends began to bathe him with thousands of naira in crisp notes.

Outside the hall, the Ataoja, the Aragbiji and the Oluwo similarly dragged the seemingly shy Asiwaju Badmus to dance to the rythym of a band of talking drummers who had lain in ambush and poured songs of praise on them in harmonious tones.

Son of the celebrant, the Executive Director of Marine and Operations at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Engineer Lekan Badmus was at different spots in the hall almost at the same time, coordinating and ensuring guests received value for their time spent in honour his dear mother.

He was delivering that assignment as though he had long rehearsed it. He enjoyed a full compliment of friends and associates who were also all over the place, keeping an eagle eye on the contracted attendants.

After the curtains had been drawn on the glamorous birthday ceremony and all guests returned to their destinations, Badmus, on behalf of the family, sang a song of gratitude, also thanking God for crowning his sleepless nights of planning with the impressive turnout of expected guests and a flawless outing.

“We equally appreciate the presence and prayers of our revered traditional rulers, distinguished captains of industry, respected party leaders and esteemed religious leaders, particularly Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa whose guidance and blessings added great value to the occasion.

“Our heartfelt thanks also extend to the management and staff of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), friends, associates, well-wishers, and all others too numerous to mention individually, who contributed in diverse ways to the success of the celebration. Once again, we are sincerely grateful for your support and shared goodwill,” he declared.
