Back to the podium: Oba Oyelude bags another award

On May 17, Nigerian Books of Record, a body that celebrates, documents and honours distinguished Nigerians, founded in 2013, conferred on the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Makama Oyelude, award reserved exclusively to patriotic selfless and peace-loving Nigerians from diverse backgrounds and callings.

Analysts, who track record of Oba Oyelude’s reign since 2012, were unanimous in their justification for the award and others before it. Publisher of the NewsNow, Mr Victor Oriola was upbeat at the ceremony held in the Olowu’s Palace, saying he’s a round peg in a round hole because of his known zeal to make impact beyond the frontier of his domain.

Barely two months afterwards, precisely on July 1, Oba Oyelude was back on the podium, receiving yet another award for his attention to promotion of all elements of Yoruba culture, spending his hard-earned resources and energy.

The event was the opening ceremony of the UNESCO- IFCD-UNIOSUN Cultural Project and the board of the Toyin Falola International Conference on Africa and African Diaspora in conjunction with the College of Humanities and Culture, Osun State University, Osogbo.

Held inside the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, scholars from various university communities home and abroad witnessed it, while three other traditional rulers also returned to their respective palaces with awards for the same reason.

Oba Oyelude, who extolled the virtues of the revered US-based Professor Toyin, Falola, asserted that royalty is all about service to humanity and urged his fellow traditional rulers to live up to what tradition expect from them as a living link between their subjects and their ancestors.

The Olowu also called the organisers “to use culture as a catalyst in rebranding Nigeria image home and diaspora in consonance with the Federal Government Renew hope agenda.”

He expressed his happiness and what he called a sense of fulfilment that his contribution to upholding and preserving our culture is being acknowledged.

Royal fathers in attendance included the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba AbdulRasheed Olabomi, the Eburu of Iba, Oba Adekunle Adeogun Okunoye Others included the Olaa of Ajagunlase, Oba Ismaila Gbadamosi Fabunmi, the Onigege of Igege, Oba Dr.Kazeem Adio Orioye; the Onisara of Feesu, Oba Dr.Alamu Moshood Oparonke; the Oori of Olori, Oba Musibau Adebayo Akinloye; the Olaotq of Ilota, Oba Femi Idowu; the Oniraan of Iran, Oba Adekunle Omolola; the Olu of Lahan, Oba Waliulah Azeez Alabi.

Also in the company of the Olowu to the ceremony were groups and individuals, including the Big Brothers Club Osun, the
Responsible Ladies Group, Nigeria Youth Council, Online Media Owners Association.

Others were the YMLS Osun, Balogun of Owu Kuta, Chief Momimi of Kuta, Chief Ajiroba of Kuta
Aremo Akinloye, Baale Oloke Kuta, Baale Olowe Kuta, Ogundeji Elebuibon
Sheikh Ridwan Ainu and
Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) chapel of the Nigeria Union ofJournalists (NUJ).
