Adeleke felicitates Tribune Editor, Olagunju over Academy Fellowship

On account of his conferment of a Honourary Fellow on the Saturday Tribune Editor, Dr Lasisi Olagunju by the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), Governor of the recipient’s state of origin, Senator Ademola Adeleke could not contain his joy in his congratulatory message to Olagunju whose weekly column, Monday Lines, enjoys global appeal.

Olagunju is one of three the Executive Committee of the Academy at its meeting on Tuesday July 8, 2025 approved in the class of Honourary Fellows for the year. Others are His Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe and Mr Jahman Oladejo Anikulapo.

A release, signed by President of the Academy, Professor Sola Akinrinade, says, ” The Investiture of new Fellows and Conferment of awards will hold during the 27th Convocation of the Academy on the 14th August 2025 at the University of Lagos.”

In his message, issued by Spokesperson and Special Adviser to the Governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the honour as a further affirmation of the significant influence of Olagunju’s works in enriching knowledge.

He also praised him as a model of responsible journalism, exploring his mastery of words to advance for a better society, adding that the NAL Fellowship is a recognition of his outstanding contributions to the humanities in Nigeria and beyond and is worth celebrating.

Adeleke commended Olagunju for commitment to truth and informed commentaries, which has not only earned him recognition but also put Osun State in good spotlights, expressing his deep admiration for his talents and honours his many great attainments.

“I’m deeply happy to hear about the conferment of a prestigious Honourary Fellowship on Dr Lasisi Olagunju by the Nigerian Academy of Letters. The honour goes beyond just the platform but speaks to the increasing recognition for Dr Olagunju’s incredible works and their contributions to enriching knowledge.

The governor enthused, “I congratulate Dr Olagunju for the honour that the Fellowship confers on him and appreciate him for always putting Osun state on the news for very good reasons. Joining many eminent Nigerians on the NAL Fellowship is an exceptional feat and I celebrate him for the achievement.”

He expressed hope that his passion for truth and informed commentary will continue to make Osun proud and inspire young people in the state and beyond to be unwavering in pursuing success in their chosen fields without compromise whatsoever.

In the same mood, the governor congratulated former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Emmanuel Udom on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as “a committed patriot and deep servant in the vineyard of God.”

In a statement, he showered encomiums on Udom whom he described as a consummate democrat with passion for state and national development.

He said, “As a public servant, service to your people was your watchword and as a private citizen, you remain a true patriot who counsels and supports good governance in both private and public sectors.

“Your personality exudes trust and reliability. I value you as a personal friend, and I have strong faith that the good Lord is ever your strength.”
