There is an old saying that we never truly know the value of something until it is gone. Nothing proves this more than the love of a mother.
A mother’s love is unlike any other. It asks for nothing in return, yet gives everything. She is the first person to celebrate our victories, the first to wipe away our tears and the last to stop praying for us. Even when we become adults with families of our own, we remain children in our mother’s eyes.
Many of us are so busy chasing tomorrow that we forget to cherish today. We postpone visits, shorten phone calls and assume there will always be another opportunity to say, “Thank you, Mum. I love you.” Sadly, life does not always give us another chance.
When a mother dies, something changes forever. The world may continue as usual, but for her children, a chapter closes that can never be reopened. It is not only her face they miss. They miss her laughter, her gentle rebukes, her wise counsel, her warm embrace and those heartfelt prayers that followed them wherever they went. There are some secrets only a mother knows, some fears only she can calm and some wounds only her words can heal.
Time may lessen the pain, but it never erases the memories. Birthdays, weddings, graduations and family celebrations often carry a silent emptiness because one special seat remains vacant. The heart learns to live with the loss, but it never forgets.
If your mother is still alive, count yourself blessed. Spend time with her. Listen to her stories, no matter how many times you have heard them. Seek her advice. Make her laugh. Be patient with her. Most importantly, let her know she is loved. The flowers you give her today are worth more than the flowers placed on her grave tomorrow.
To everyone whose mother has departed this world, may the beautiful memories she left behind continue to comfort your heart. May Almighty God forgive all mothers who have passed on, accept their good deeds and grant them eternal rest in His infinite mercy.
May God also strengthen every son and daughter who wakes each day carrying the pain of losing a mother. He alone understands the emptiness that no human being can fill. May He replace sorrow with peace, loneliness with hope and tears with beautiful memories.
To every mother still alive, may God bless you with good health, long life and the joy of seeing your children succeed. For truly, a mother’s love is the heartbeat of every home, and when that heartbeat is gone, its echo remains forever.
