Back to alma mater

His emergence as the national President of the Ibadan Grammar School Old Students Association (IGSOSA) did not come to his fellow alumni as a surprise. Barr. Dayo Onakoya’s antecedent worked in his favour and walked with him to the 113th Founders Day held on the last day of last month of March.

Complementing him at the anniversary were members of the national executive: Vice-President1, Mrs Lawumi Olafunmiloye; Vice-President2, Mr Femi Adelugba; General Secretary, Dr Abdulai Rasheed; Auditor,
Mr. Asiwaju Hammed; Financial Secretary, Mr. Kunle Afolabi FCA and Public Relations Officer, Mr Aribisala Olorunisola.

They all were a sight to behold in their modest attires of celebrating their alma mater’s special day which began with thanksgiving service in the school chapel, with the opening prayer said by Pastor Taiwo. The event also featured renditions at the tomb of the school Founder, late Rt. Revd Alexander Babatunde Akinyele.

It also featured the Annual General Meeting and Luncheon during which old students exchanged banters and nostalgised their days as pupils of the historic post-primary school.

The president appreciated all members of the old students present and in elsewhere; he charged them to rise and renew their dedication to take the association to their desired height among its contemporaries.

A member of the association, Mr Lanre Otusanya was excited to be back alongside classmates who passed out over four decades ago, precisely in 1984, commending the old students association leadership for their service and sacrifice to uphold the principle with which the association was founded.

“It is good to see old class mates; it is theraupetic and soul-lifting, considering number of years we have gone our separate ways. I congratulate principal, staff and students of our school for this year’s celebration. Next year, we shall be back,” he assured.
